Government

Political science graduates may be interested in pursuing a career in the local, state or federal government. Those interested in working in government should work to improve their analytical, problem solving and communication skills. It is also helpful to have some background in mathematics and statistics.

The federal government employs individuals in a variety of different careers including but not limited to budget analyst, program analyst, foreign affairs specialist, public affairs specialist, and social scientist. The process of applying for a career in the federal government is unlike careers elsewhere. A good place to start exploring jobs is Go Government. USAJobs and the federal Office of Personnel Management both list a number of positions suitable for political science majors.
