Alumni Giving Opportunities

The Department of Political Science is grateful for the valuable support it receives from alumni and friends. Your donations help the department meet its commitments to excellence in research, teaching, and public service. Thanks for your support!

The Department of Political Science Annual Fund

The Annual Fund provides unrestricted funds to aid in the achievement of the Department's multiple missions. These gifts are often the only source of discretionary funds available to meet the Department's needs. Annual gifts benefit the Department's students, programs, and faculty. They make it possible to recognize outstanding teaching; provide educational technology essential for learning, teaching, and research; fund student and faculty research initiatives; support innovative course development and other academic programs.

The Ira Carmen Fund for Student Support

My wife-to-be was a Poli Sci major a year ahead of me. She convinced me to take Constitutional Law and Civil Liberties. Those two classes changed my whole outlook on class and exam preparation. We both went on to earn our BAs and JDs from Illinois. We have both spent twenty years working as attorneys for the State. Our daughter just graduated Bronze Tablet. It can all be traced back to Ira Carmen. Thank you sir.

—Shelly (Davis) and JAC Knuppel

I had Prof. Carmen for Political Science 150 in my very first semester as a freshman in August 1987. I still very vividly remember his opening words of his first lecture—
'Politics is Power'. I still think about that line very often ... I am still VERY interested in politics and I owe a lot of that to Prof. Carmen.

—Patrick Walls

The Ira Carmen Student Support Fund allows the Department to reward exceptional student achievements; provide scholarships and fellowships to deserving students; fund student organizations like Minorities in Political Science and Pi Sigma Alpha; send undergraduate and graduate students to conferences; and allow outstanding students to engage in original research, serve as interns, and take advantage of unique educational opportunities. Professor Carmen announced his retirement in 2009; this fund honors his forty years of exceptional teaching and research at Illinois.

Your gift, no matter its size, is greatly appreciated!
